In the Seven Star Sea, at the Seven Star Market, the streets were bustling with people and noisy with carriages and horses.
In a secluded courtyard with green tiles, there stood a three-story blue pavilion and a blue stone pavilion.
A tall, thin man in a green robe and a pot-bellied man in a red robe were sitting in the stone pavilion, discussing something.
"Should we inform Ancestor Tianyan? With just the two of us, we might not be able to acquire that treasure," the man in the green robe said with some concern.
This was Murong Changxing, an early-stage Golden Immortal, who went by the alias Chen Xing.
"If we inform Ancestor Tianyan, even if we succeed, the treasure won't end up in our hands," the man in the red robe analyzed. "Besides, Ancestor Tianyan cannot leave the market right now, so informing her would be useless. If we do it ourselves, the treasure will be ours once we get it."
This was Murong Changchen, an early-stage Golden Immortal, who went by the alias Liu Chen.
"That's true," Murong Changxing said with a difficult expression. "But Ancestor Xu is a late-stage Golden Immortal with extraordinary power, and with that treasure in his possession, we probably can't defeat him!"
"Don't forget what the Yama Palace does," Murong Changchen said, frowning. "We can place an order for them to send a Golden Immortal master of curses to kill Ancestor Xu. The problem is, we don't have enough money to place the order."
By chance, they had discovered that a family named Xu possessed a rare treasure. Ancestor Xu Tianlei of the Xu family was a late-stage Golden Immortal with exceptional power.
"If we kill a few more Golden Immortal cultivators, we'll have everything we need," Murong Changxing suggested. As elite members of the Murong family, they possessed powerful divine abilities and had no problem dealing with ordinary Golden Immortal cultivators.
"We can't keep tempting fate," Murong Changchen said with some concern. "Our last elimination of a Golden Immortal cultivator was out of necessity. If we do it a few more times, we'll easily run into serious trouble."
Murong Changxing said with some displeasure, "If we don't do this, how else can we acquire a large sum of wealth quickly?" He added that if there were another way, he wouldn't want to kill for treasure.
Murong Changchen took out a golden, shimmering Dharma plate and cast a spell into it. A man's voice, full of surprise and excitement, rang out: "Master, your disciple has discovered an ancient cultivator's cave dwelling! However, the restrictions are too powerful; Junior Sister Xu and the others were killed by them."
To conceal their identities, they had established a small sect and recruited some disciples whose task was to gather information.
"An ancient cultivator's cave dwelling? Come to my residence immediately to report," Murong Changchen commanded.
"Yes, Master," the man assented.
Murong Changchen put away the golden Dharma plate, his face beaming with joy. "Someone brings a pillow when you're sleepy," he said. "It seems our stroke of luck has arrived."
"That's quite a coincidence!" Murong Changxing said suspiciously. "We just needed funds, and a disciple discovers an ancient cultivator's cave dwelling?"
"We'll know once Li Hao arrives," Murong Changchen said dismissively. "We haven't told anyone else that we lack funds, so how would others know?"
Not long after, a burly young man in a blue robe walked in. He bowed respectfully and said, "Disciple Li Hao greets Master and Senior Uncle Chen."
"What exactly happened with this ancient cultivator's cave dwelling? Explain it in detail," Murong Changchen commanded.
Li Hao did not dare to delay and recounted the entire incident from beginning to end. He had encountered powerful enemies while out on a task. After a fierce battle, he had narrowly escaped, then accidentally discovered an ancient cultivator's cave dwelling. The restrictions were too strong for him to break. Li Hao had spent a hundred years trying, but he couldn't break the formation. Only then did he return to seek out fellow disciples to break the formation together. They had managed to break the outer restrictions, but two of his fellow disciples were killed by the core restrictions. Given their fate, he decided to report it.
Murong Changchen suddenly realized that his disciple had discovered the ancient cultivator's cave dwelling long ago. He had simply wanted to monopolize the treasures and thus hadn't reported it.
"Your disciple originally intended to retrieve the treasures and then present them to you, Master," Li Hao said cautiously. "I didn't expect to implicate Junior Sister Xu and Junior Brother Liu." He had indeed wanted to monopolize it. Liu Chen was Li Hao's master in name only. He rarely guided Li Hao's cultivation and didn't provide many cultivation resources. Naturally, Li Hao didn't have much respect for this master. Had he not truly been unable to break the restrictions, he wouldn't have reported it.
"It's rare for you to be so filial. Lead the way!" Murong Changchen commanded. "Once we retrieve the treasures, we won't treat you unfairly."
"Yes, Master," Li Hao readily agreed, overjoyed.
Leaving the market, Murong Changchen summoned a golden, shimmering flying boat, a low-grade flying immortal artifact. He stepped onto it, followed by Murong Changxing and Li Hao. Murong Changchen formed a hand seal, and the golden flying boat glowed with a golden light, flying into the distance.
In a secret chamber in Green Pear Pavilion, Li Canghai sat cross-legged on a green meditation mat. In his hand was a golden, shimmering immortal transmission mirror, and on its surface, Wang Chuanming's face could be seen.
"The targets have departed. Liu Chen and Chen Xing are both present, along with Li Hao," Li Canghai said.
The so-called ancient cultivator's cave dwelling was a trap they had set. They had originally thought that Li Hao, unable to break the restrictions, would report it immediately. However, the boy spent a hundred years trying but still couldn't break the restrictions. He even brought two True Immortal cultivators, so Wang Chuanming simply activated the restrictions, killing the two True Immortals and allowing Li Hao to escape.
"Understood," Wang Chuanming commanded. "Keep a close watch on cultivators who are closely associated with them. Hopefully, we can uncover other remnants of the Murong family." So far, they had only discovered two remnants of the Murong family.
"Understood," Li Canghai cautioned. "Be careful. They are, after all, elites of the Murong family. Even if their cultivation is lower, there's no telling what trump cards they might have."
"Don't worry!" Wang Chuanming said confidently. "This formation I've set up is a simplified version that Ancestor Yuqi developed based on an ancient grand formation. Its power is less than a tenth of the original, but eliminating Golden Immortal cultivators will be effortless." He added that with his mastery of the Three Fingers of Qiankun, his immortal puppets, bean soldiers, and his array formations and soul-based divine abilities, eliminating two Golden Immortal cultivators would be no problem.
"That's good, then. Let's leave it at that!" Li Canghai felt relieved and put away the immortal transmission mirror.
An endless expanse of blue sea stretched under a clear sky for thousands of miles, with a refreshing sea breeze blowing.
A golden light appeared on the distant horizon. With a flash, it stopped above a desolate island spanning a thousand *li*, revealing a golden, shimmering flying boat.
Murong Changchen and Murong Changxing stood on the golden flying boat. As for Li Hao, Murong Changchen had already killed him. They had suspected Li Hao of colluding with outsiders to set a trap for them. So they killed Li Hao and searched his soul. After confirming that Li Hao's account was accurate, they finally came to the location of the ancient cultivator's cave dwelling.
"The spiritual energy here is sparse, no wonder no one discovered it," Murong Changxing said with a smile.
Murong Changchen nodded. He formed a hand seal, and the golden flying boat slowly descended, landing in a small valley surrounded by mountains on three sides. He flicked his sleeve, and a yellow, shimmering command flag flew out, embedding itself into an uneven stone wall. The stone wall glowed with a yellow light, revealing a cave entrance about ten feet wide. Both men extended their divine senses widely and found no issues. They also used treasures to probe, again finding no problems. Only then did they enter.
Not long after, a loud bang echoed from inside the cave. A vast expanse of yellow mist surged from the ground, covering a good portion of the desolate island.
